Short Description of Activity
The webinar entitled “Beavers: Greater Yellowstone’s Climate Resiliency Heroes” was led by Ben Goldfarb. Goldfarb is the author of “Eager: The Surprising Secret Life of Beavers and Why They Matter”. I have read the book, so much of the webinar material was familiar to me. With only 10% of their historical population today, beavers are absent from a great deal of their natural habitat. They have the ability to restore degraded streams and wetlands and provide important conservation services.
Reflection/Evaluation
While the book took a broad geographical look at beavers, the webinar focused on the potential impacts of beavers in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Highly misunderstood, they are unwelcome neighbors to many ranchers and landowners Restoring healthy populations to the national and state parks near us is highly desirable.
