Short Description of Activity
Webinar title: “Wolves: Exploring the Past, Present, and Future of Greater Yellowstone’s Iconic Canines”. We learned about wolves habitat and prey requirements, and the history of reintroduction f wolves to the Northern Rockies. The need for connectivity between wolf populations was stressed, as a means to add genetic diversity.
Reflection/Evaluation
I learned that the wolf populations in the Northern Rockies have proved to be quite resilient, in spite of liberal state hunting laws following delisting of these wolves. The management plans of Montana, Idaho and Wyoming are not grounded in good science, and methods of estimating population numbers are based on invalid assumptions. In much of the area of these states wolves are managed as predators, with minimal protection.
