Short Description of Activity

Webinar meeting regarding Biomass (pellet) Plants being proposed in the Pacific Northwest as a fuel source to be shipped to Asia and other European countries that threaten our forests and threaten old growth/mature trees, an issue that our Broadband has been focused on. The participants were from the PNW and Southeast states where pellet plants already exist and their negative effects on communities and their location in areas where marginalized groups are targets.

Reflection/Evaluation

The meeting was enhanced with the participation of people from the southeastern states sharing their knowledge and experience dealing with the pellet plants, dealing with government officials locally and abroad. DRAX the pellet company is a British based corporation heavily subsidized by the British government. It feels like they are targeting the west coast to exploit our abundance forests but at a time when it is so important to protect carbon storage.
