Key Issue: Public Lands Health & Protection
Activity Type: Stewardship (monitoring, sampling, planting, etc.)
Key Partners: Idaho Dept. of Parks & Recreation; Teton Valley Trails and Pathways
Measurable Outcomes
Outcome 1: Invasives removed (1000 plants)
Outcome 2: Invasives removed (1.5 miles)
Short Description of Activity
The 29 mile Ashton-Tetonia Trail State Park is a local rails-to-trails project that the WHALES regularly use in summer and in winter. IDPR doesn’t have the staff needed to maintain the trail, so we helped to dig invasive thistle and hounds tongue.
Reflection/Evaluation
The wind was ferocious so this wasn’t an easy job! The primary benefit, of course, was removal of invasive plants (1000 is just an estimate). but secondarily, we now have a contact at IDPR who owes us a favor!
