Short Description of Activity
Twenty-one Polly Dyer Seattle Broads got together on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at noon in Seattle’s Seward Park to celebrate the sixth anniversary of our Broadband. Barbara Phalen held the inaugural meeting of our Broadband at her home on the evening of May 21, 2018. Prior to that, some of us were members of the Olympia, WA, Broadband. We began with introductions as we had some new members as well as members who have been around for a long time and actually knew Polly Dyer when she was alive. As part of introductions, each of us shared a fond memory of one of our Broadband’s activities during the last six years. We then ate a potluck lunch, followed by birthday cake and chatting. Janna Treisman, who represents us on the Alpine Lakes Collaborative passed out a survey on attitudes toward different uses and values for “Wilderness.” Janna requested that each member complete the survey, then take a photo of it, and email it to janna.treisman@gmail.com.
Reflection/Evaluation
We had a great time sharing stories of the beginnings of the Great Old Broads thirty-five years ago, the advocacy work to protect the environment of our own Polly Dyer, the achievements of our Broadband over the last six years, and our hopes and dreams for the future. The goal of this activity was to have fun and to celebrate what we have achieved as a Broadband since we began six years ago. We clearly met and exceeded that goal. We had the best turnout ever. Broads enjoyed themselves and stayed afterwards to hike in Seward Park.
