Short Description of Activity
Hiked spectacular wildflower trail, Cone Peak/Iron Mountain, on Willamette National Forest, with 6 Central Oregon Bitterbrush Broads and 7 Willamette Valley Broads. Discussed Owyhee Monument campaign and solicited comments after hike about same. Botanize along trail, identifying many dozens of native plants.
Reflection/Evaluation
Perfect day of hiking, peak wildflower bloom. Although we had a couple of snafus with timing and some people arriving late, we managed to hike most of it together. Strong interest in botany so I identified and explained many, many plants and their natural history. At lunch, discussed Owyhee Monument Campaign at length, and all agreed to contact our Senators and POTUS. After the hike, I was requested to pull together a species list, which took about 6 hours to complete and email out.
