Short Description of Activity
Locating and updating records of rare plant species. This work was done by several members of our broadband under the leadership of Peggy Lyon in conjunction with several representatives of the CNHP. We were searching for three specific plants and located two of them. (Rothrock’s Townsend Daisy, aka Townsendia rothrockii, and Alpine Tundra Draba, aka Draba streptobrachia. This search took place on the peak of Engineer Mountain after a several hour jeep ride to this high tundra terrain. We also were accompanied by other broadband members who were involved in Bighorn Sheep monitoring and that will be documented in an additional activity report.
Reflection/Evaluation
The goal was to see if we could locate three rare plants in the same location that they had last been seen and update records. Plant surveys were done on two of the three plants at this location so that documentation was completed. We were not able to locate the third species in the time we had available. Future surveys will be conducted on other sites in Ouray County in the near future for other species.
