Short Description of Activity
Public comment period regarding campaign to have a pedistrian, bicycle bridge put over the Deschutes River.
Reflection/Evaluation
This has been an ongoing issue/concern with a small group of citizens attempting to get the Bend Park and Recreation Dept. to approve the placement of a bridge over the Deschutes River in an area that is designated Wild and Scenic. They would need to get support from a private landowner as well as the Deschutes National Forest (on the opposite side of the river), which has not been forthcoming. DNF doesn’t consider this a priority and the group with this campaign doesn’t seem to understand the guidelines/rules for a designated Wild and Scenic riverway. A group of us have been fighting this for several years. We want to believe that we are making some gains, but this group has some large financial backing – we won’t give up.
