Activity Type: Advocacy (rallies, lobbying, meeting decision makers, letters/calls/emails)
Key Partners: Cascade Forestry Conservatory
Short Description of Activity
Took a survey and submitted a statement regarding the construction to replace the Spirit Lake Tunnel and to preserve the surrounding areas that are unique examples of the recovery zone (Pumice Plane) around Mt St Helens.
Mount St. Helens, the Pumice Plain, and Spirit Lake are special places Cascade Forest Conservancy has fought to protect since our founding. Now, we need your help speaking out to preserve the ongoing ecological recovery occurring here and the scientific insights this healing volcanic landscape is providing to us.
Reflection/Evaluation
I live near this area, and I love this area. It provides hikes you will never get tired of. It is unique area that represents so well natures natural recovery of an eruption event. Putting a road through the Pumice Plain will introduce plants that will change the nature of this moon scape like ecosystem. Rumors have it that the road for this tunnel project is an excuse to connect windy Ridge to Johnston Ridge Observatory. More people, more, cars, more impact on another pristine area breaks my heart.
