Short Description of Activity

Delta County is working with WSCC and the Colorado West Land Trust in a parcel of land by the Gunnison River by the bridge on G50. The county has taken responsibility to put in a boat ramp area so people traveling the river will have a safe place to stop. They have put in a dirt road and a parking area where people can park and watch cranes in the winter in the neighboring field. The conservation groups are focusing on the land, planting native species and removing invasives. I am working with them on this effort, planting, bringing in water to keep new plants alive. There is no source of water at the site readily available. I have been going weekly or more or less (depending on weather conditions/rain) to bring in water for some of the things planted. The goal is to make this area more beneficial to wildlife with addition of native flora. I went to the site to water bushes we planted on six occasions between 6/1 and 8/19/24. It takes an hour for me to go to the site and do the watering.

Reflection/Evaluation

The goal is to make this area a healthier natural landscape for the benefit of plants and wildlife along with supporting appropriate recreational use. It is a work in progress that will take time.
