Key Issue: Wildlife Protection
Activity Type: Advocacy (rallies, lobbying, meeting decision makers, letters/calls/emails)
Key Partners: RMBS
Landscape/area: BLM CO – Gunnison Field Office
Short Description of Activity
Ongoing advocacy with federal (BLM & USFS and state agencies (CPW) related to protection of bighorn sheep in the areas of domestic sheep grazing allotments; contact with local reporter as well as permittee with aggressive guard dogs; researching and communicating regarding grazing within the Uncompahgre Fritillary Butterfly closure.
Reflection/Evaluation
Continue to share observations with BLM Gunnison Field Office and Ouray District/GMUG Forest staff, anticipate a possible newspaper article, phone call with permittee re: guard dogs was productive in terms of gleaning some answers but the permittee was very defensive and accused me/us of trying to destroy their livelihood. Have some concern about grazing in or adjacent to the Fritillary Butterfly closure area.
