Key Partners: Charlie Marks Colorado College State of the Rockies, Sally Sharp
Short Description of Activity
Sally emailed me about Charlie being in town to make a video about protecting the Dolores River. I emailed him and told him about our4 Corners Broadband Slick Rock uranium opposition and that we’re wondering if the proposed Dolores River NCA will allow renewed Slick Rock uranium mining. I also sent him CO Green Amendment info because I think it’s a possible solution when our representatives side with Anfield. He scheduled a Zoom meeting with me and I told him all about proposed Slick Rock uranium mining even within the proposed Dolores River NCA. I told him about our Green Amendment group and how the Montana young people have used it to stop two power plants protecting two rivers. I think CO legislators will listen to young people and maybe they will pass a Green Amendment to the CO Bill of Rights to protect air, water, and land for future generations. I connected Charlie with Maya van Rossum and Wendy Kerner to do a ZOOM presentation with the State of the Rockies research group at Colorado College. He said the have a Sunrise Group of young people that might be interested too. So I sent him Delaney Rudy’s information because she works with a Sunrise Group too. The more the merrier to enlighten the legislators to protect the environment.
Speaking of legislators, I shared our Slick Rock opposition with Adam Frisch at Dolores Public Library on 8-14-2024. He repeated Anfield’s line that it’s a bridge to renewables. But he was impressed with the number of petition signatures we collected. He is a Democratic candidate for CD3 this November, so it made some impression.
Reflection/Evaluation
Hopefully this will help Green Amendment take off in CO. It would make our jobs easier if it became the legislature’s job to protect the environment as a right to clean air, water, and land- just like freedom of speech.
