Short Description of Activity
Met with trail advocates by Zoom to broadcast on Big Cabbage Radio (Palmer Radio Station) about what a Wild and Scenic Trail designation would mean regarding the proposed Alaska Long Trail.
Reflection/Evaluation
This trail would go through the Chugach, Talkeetna and Alaska Range mountains, starting with the Iditarod Trail. They are looking at going for a Wild and Scenic Trail designation for at least part of it. The big brouhaha is over motorized access. Part of the trail would be on or adjacent to trail where motorized access is presently allowed. Present plans call to leave those parts of the trail for multi use including motorized access but people are afraid it would limit their present use of the trail sections. There were very few call in questions that were better answered by the Alaska Trails group so I did not speak as I am not well informed on this yet. It was meant to be informative, to allay fears, but I am not sure those that needed to hear the information were listening.
