Key Issue: Public Lands Health & Protection
Activity Type: Stewardship (monitoring, sampling, planting, etc.)
Key Partners: BLM
Landscape/area: Adobe Badlands WSA (10425 acres)
Measurable Outcomes
Outcome 1: Trail/land monitored (6 sites/plots)
Short Description of Activity
As reported to BLM: In the first parking lot area, one of the signs was destroyed, beer bottle tops and containers, a bag with a decomposing animal (perhaps a small dog), I dumped the animal out so it could decompose in the air, it was full of maggots so no effort to remove it or the bag at this time; In the second parking lot area, there were beer cans and bottles in the lot and others had been thrown over the fence at the top and some down the embankment, I picked a bucket of trash and a boot box at the base of the embankment, the fence that had been cut was now connected by wire, In the third parking area ot there was no new trash and the fences were intact; in the 4th parking area lot, there was literally only a handful of trash but the tire is still in the area below to the north ; in the 5th parking area, very little new trash, removed some broken glass, the 6th area was the loop road back at the southern end, there no sign of new trash or that the area has been used inappropriately. Overall 10 lbs of trash removed.
Reflection/Evaluation
The goal is to keep trash from buiding up in the WSA and to report to BLM the findings monthly. This goal is being met.
