Reflection/Evaluation
Presentation regarding the proposal at Mt. Bachelor to heat their facility with biomass. The presenter is from Eugene Oregon and his presentation had to do with biochar and how it is used as a soil amendment. Some of the information is different than what Mathieu and I have researching…while it might assist with holding water, it also sucks out the nutrients of the soil in the long run. It is expensive currently in Oregon there are just small operations. Questions were asked and the one I had was about sustainability. The gentleman with Mt. Bachelor shared that there are thousands of acres around Mt. Bachelor that the forest needs thinning. Further, they would transport those trees to a mill in La Pine ( a 45 minutes drive), process and then return to Mt. Bachelor. Mathieu followed up and they do not count the fossil fuel needed from transporting as to the impact of emissions.
