Short Description of Activity
River Watch activities involved three components this month. It started with an evaluation of this Broad by a representative of River Watch on 11/5/24 to ensure that my procedures were reliable, I successfully demonstrated that I tested unknown samples appropriately and the results were within acceptable range of their predetermined results. On 11/6/24, I volunteered at a Delta Middle School classroom to assist teacher Kendal Hovel as he works with 7th graders on also doing River Watch evaluation. Then on 11/24/24 I did my monthly sampling of the Uncompahgre River in Confluence Park. This sampling was beyond the normal one and required taking additional samples for metals testing and also samples to assess Nutrients during the low flow time of the river. These samples were mailed on 11/25/24 and were required to be kept cold, requiring special packing and mailing to get to Denver by 11/27/24.
Reflection/Evaluation
The goal is to support River Watch in gathering reliable data. I am doing this by my monthly sampling of the Uncompahgre in Confluence Park. Now additionally I am volunteering to help a teacher who has committed to introducing his students to participating in this kind of stewardship. It is essential that those doing the sampling and protocols do so in a consistent and reliable manner. Both the young students and I demonstrated through the passing the evaluation of River Watch staff, that we are doing this.
