Short Description of Activity
Broads met with Oregon State University forestry professor Mark Swanson in the MacDonald and Dunn research forest outside Corvallis to discuss forest management, climate change, and OSU politics. Most Broads in attendance use these forests for recreation extensively, and a few have been to public meetings and been frustrated with the public engagement process, and disagree with forest management. The walk and discussion was an effort to find some common ground and lay the groundwork for future discussions.
Reflection/Evaluation
Mark brought cookies and chocoloate! And he legitimately seemed interested in our group’s thoughts and concerns. He is happy to do more tours (on a less frigid day) and continue discussions. It seemed like a good step.
