Reflection/Evaluation
Panelists agreed that the new Congress will try to reduce size of monuments, reduce funding for environmental agencies and attack bedrock environmental laws and resource management plans. Public lands legislation has been historically popular with both parties, although Trump himself doesn’t seem to care about the intrinsic value of public lands (aside from monetizing resources). Although downsizing of monuments will probably happen quickly, rule changes will take longer, allowing time for organizing public resistance.
