Short Description of Activity
We met at Janka Hobb’s home in a comfortable setting with refreshments available. I began by thanking Wendy Roedell for her six years of service as our recording secretary, and we gave her a couple gifts. Then Barbara Phalen and I reported on what we had learned from attending sessions at the Broads’ National Conference in October. Genia then reported on ongoing advocacy issues including (1) Efforts to stop the “growlers” flying over Whidbey Island; (2) Saving Deer Lagoon Preserve on Whidbey Island; (3) Amending the Northwest Forest Plan; (4) Opposing the dam to be built in the Chehalis River Basin; (5) Stopping the logging in WA’s Legacy Forests; and (6) Preserving the wilderness in the Alpine Lakes and the Enchantments.
Reflection/Evaluation
Seventeen Broadband members turned out for the meeting. We had a rousing discussion of our ongoing advocacy issues. Also, we formed a group that will do “Field Checking” in the Legacy Forests–an activity to be led by Peggy Lovellford who has a degree in Forestry. We asked for volunteers who were interested in doing this work, and amazingly, twelve people signed up for this project, not including Peggy. All in all, I consider the meeting to be a real success.
