Short Description of Activity
Broadband leader attended the Gila National Forest Plan draft record of decision objection meeting. Our broadband had previously submitted comments on the draft plan and subsequently signed-on to the objection letter drafted by New Mexico Wild staff attorney focusing on Wilderness and Wild and Scenic River recommendations in the draft Record of Decision.
Reflection/Evaluation
It seemed to go well and hopefully some of the objections may make a difference with the final Record of Decision/ GNF Plan. (We’ll see.) While some of the ranch, diversion proponents, and livestock stakeholder group representatives included some comments and data that were not factual particularly toward the end of the meeting, the environmental non-profit staff were professional in their presentation and provided information relevant to the stated purpose of the objection meeting. Broadband leader was prepared to speak briefly if called upon, but time was quite short and the time was needed for the staff to specifically review the objections. It was worthwhile attending in order to hear the issues and comments that were discussed.
