Short Description of Activity
The webinar name: Defending Values and Finding Common Ground says it all. Learning how to talk to people from other parties who may agree with our commitment to protecting public lands
Reflection/Evaluation
The pool results are very encouraging, and show increasing preference for conservation and recreation over extractive development on public lands. The relevant federal agencies are viewed positively, and there is bipartisan support for keeping national monuments intact (though opinions ay vary about nearby monuments). The panelists gave helpful suggestions about language to use or avoid when talking about these issues. For example, “biodiversity” is unfamiliar to many – use “variety” instead. Use “health and way of life” in place of “physical and mental health”. Use “working farms and ranches” instead of “agriculture”. Use “protect” in place of “conserve” (though I know they are not the same).
